The Most Common Types of Cancer in the U.S

There are more than 200 different variants of cancer that are known to us. Besides melanoma cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer found in people in the country. It is closely followed by lung and then prostate cancer. This article compiles some of the top most common types of cancer. They are listed in descending order of their occurrence.

Breast Cancer
In American women, the most common type of cancer is breast cancer. Though predominant in women, breast cancer cases among men are also noted.
Lung Cancer
The country’s next most common type of cancer is lung cancer. It also includes bronchus cancer. The most effective way to reduce the chances of developing bronchus cancer or lung cancer is to quit smoking.
Prostate Cancer
In men living in the country, the most prevalent cancer is prostate cancer. It is also one of the primary causes of death among men in the country. Though cancer grows slowly, it is important to be watchful of the early warning signs to ensure cancer can be diagnosed and treated in time.
Rectal and Colon Cancer
Cancer that is present in the rectum or the colon is known as colorectal cancer.
Among the most common cancers is melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer. Melanin is responsible for giving our skin its natural hue. So, at times, cancer originates in the melanoma cells, and cause abnormal moles on the skin. Though it appears mostly on the skin, some people develop melanoma on their pigmented tissues or the eyes. The survival rate of this cancer is incredibly high.
Bladder Cancer
It is another common variant of cancer. It is predominant in older adults. Men are more likely to develop this cancer as compared to women.
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL)
NHL is a cancer of the blood that starts at the lymphatic system. In this cancer, the lymphocytes lead to the formation of tumors in the blood.
Kidney Cancer
Usually, kidney cancer starts as a tumour in a single kidney. It is also known as renal cell cancer. The tumour from cancer either forms at the ureter or the pelvis of the kidney.
Endometrial Cancer
Typically, there are 2 categories of uterine cancer – uterine sarcoma and endometrial cancer. Of these, the latter is common.
Leukemia
Cancer that develops in the tissues of the bone marrow that are responsible for the blood formation is known as leukemia. When a plethora of unhealthy white blood cells grow in the bone marrow and the blood and outnumber the healthy blood cells, then that leads to the development of leukemia. As a result of leukemia, a person is unable to fight infections, transport oxygen to the different tissues of the body, or control bleeding.
